Aroma Therapy Fragrance BeadsHow to Make Fragrance Beads

Materials Needed:

1. Unscented beads, 1 lb
2. Fragrance oil, 1-2 oz per 1 lb of beads
3. Liquid candle dye (optional)
4. Container (glass jar or HDPE plastic container) with a tightly closing lid

Instructions:

1. Pour 3-4 tablespoons of fragrance oil into a container.
2. Add 3-8 drops of liquid candle dye. You can add more or less, depending on the intensity of color desired. Do NOT use food coloring, RIT dye or skin safe dye. These items will bead up in the oil and come off on whatever they touch.
3. Add 1 lb of unscented beads.
4. Put the lid tightly on the container and shake vigorously until evenly coated with fragrance oil and dye.
5. Continue to shake every hour or so until oil is completely absorbed.
6. Depending on the fragrance, this may take from 24 hours to 1 week.
7. When complete, the beads will no longer stick to the sides of the container and should be dry to the touch. If all the oil does not absorb, add more beads and repeat.

Scented Gel Air FreshenersHow to Make Gel Air Fresheners

Materials Needed:

1. Unscented water crystals, 1 tsp
2. Fragrance oil, 1 oz
3. Distilled water, 8 oz
4. Liquid soap dye (optional)
5. Glass container

Instructions:

1. Add 8 oz of warm distilled water to 1 tsp of unscented water crystals.
2. Add a few drops of liquid soap and 2 tbsp of fragrance oil to this mixture.
3. Allow the mixture to swell for approximately 15 minutes, then place in glass container.
4. As a preservative, add 1/2 tsp of salt or 1 tsp of ethyl alcohol to the water before adding the water crystals.
5. This recipe will fill one 9 oz hexagon glass jar.

Incense SticksHow to Make Incense

Materials Needed:

1. Unscented incense sticks, approximately 100 sticks
2. DPG (di-propylene glycol)
3. Fragrance oil
4. Bottle for mixing oil
5. Glass or HDPE plastic container
6. Shallow baking pan
7. Drying rack or screen
8. Paper towels
9. Cello, wax paper or rice paper wrap for incense storage

Instructions:

1. To make the scent mixture, mix one part fragrance oil to 2 or 3 parts DPG and stir well. Do not use alcohol in place of DPG and do not use straight fragrance oil, as this will make incense very smoky.
2. Soak unscented incense sticks in the scent mixture for 24 hours to let the incense fully absorb the oil. Incense may be soaked in a glass or HDPE plastic container or a shallow glass baking pan.
3. After soaking, pour the leftover scent mixture into a container to be re-used.
4. Lay the incense on a screen or drying rack, with several layers of paper towels beneath to soak up any drips. To help incense dry, place the rack near an air flow or use a fan to speed up the drying process. Do NOT bake incense in an oven or microwave to dry. Incense must air dry for at least 48 hours before burning.
5. Store dried incense in cello, wax paper or rice paper wrap, away from sunlight and heat.
6. 16 oz of scent mixture should make approximately 500+ incense sticks. Properly made, fully dried incense should burn for 45 minutes to over an hour.

Scented CrystalsHow to Make Scented Crystals

Materials Needed:

1. Unscented natural rock salt crystals
2. Fragrance oil
3. Liquid candle dye
4. DPG (Di propylene glycol)
5. Liquid glycerin
6. Glass jar or HDPE plastic container with screw on lid
7. Foil, plastic or cardboard
8. Mica powder (optional)

    a. 1 tsp glycerin
    b. 1/4 oz DPG (helps to evenly coat crystals with dye and fragrance)

    d. 1 to 1-1/2 oz fragrance oil
3. Shake mixture vigorously until evenly coated.
